My kids had an opportunity to try out this new website for tweens called BunkiMunki™ – and they both love it.
BunkiMunki.com is a website geared towards tweens (ages 7-15). Kids can join this social site for tweens for free and immediately have fun by customizing their own alias in the likeness of BunkiMunki™, the brand character. With their virtual avatar, they can then can create their own virtual hangout and design their own rooms to reflect their individual personality and style.
My kids had so much fun creating their “alias” – of course, my 5-year-old wanted to participate in my 7-year-old’s review, so they both created an alias that they both liked.
There are also BunkiMunki™ keys which are wearable accessories available in a variety of designs. Kids will enjoy collecting them and feel connected to other BunkiMunki™ members as they “Unlock the Power of Happiness™”. My kids are already fighting over their key necklace so it looks like we’ll have to get another one!
On BunkiMunki.com, kids can enjoy fun activities like journal writing, music creation, earning badges, and playing games. They will be rewarded with Bunki Bucks, a virtual currency they earn by participating in various activities that can be spent at The Emporium, a virtual store where they can buy “furniture” for their cool rooms or accessories for their “alias”. My kids already have designed their cool room – now they need to decorate it!
My kids love the games on the site under Munki’N Around; they are thinking games – matching colours, shapes and patters. One game I myself enjoyed is called Gems Swap.
Kids can create their own songs using sounds online and play it back in Music Mixer, and also write in their own personal journal. Kids can earn badges like the Creativity Badge or the Friendship Badge by preforming a task and then uploading them to the site. Badge Central is directly linked to the Wall Of Wonderful, a place where members may display their badges. The Wall Of Wonderful (WOW) is designed to celebrate the individual achievements of each child.
The website offers a Premium Membership which gives kids unlimited access to all social media features including B-Mail, Chat and Friends. Kids can meet new friends in the Bunki community and then get emails from them and eventually chat with them. These features are in a safe social networking environment for tweens that may be too young for Facebook, but still want a place to socialize and play online.
The site has privacy features such as a strict “no real/full names” policy and a language filter (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act compliant and is certified by Privo, an FTC-approved, neutral third-party service provider whose core business is to enable companies to initiate and manage responsible and effective online relationships by adhering to best practices when dealing with communities that attract kids to their websites.
