Enjoy holiday time but be responsible – don’t drink and drive and take a cab!
During December, the LCBO’s “Deflate the Elephant” campaign is partnering with Co-op Cabs and Cabcom (the advertisements on the top of cabs) in Toronto to encourage people to plan ahead and get home safely this holiday season.
Every Saturday, starting December 8 until December 29, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., there will be a small number of specially outfitted cabs in Toronto with a large lit up elephant sign on the roof. If people spot these special cabs, and hop in, passengers will receive $10 off their ride.
Also, if you spot an elephant cab in the city, take a pic and share on Twitter with the hashtag #TOelephantsighting, you’ll have a chance to win a holiday hosting gift basket.
Avoid having guests drink and drive at your holiday party or after a night on the town and all a Co-op Cab.
The Deflate the Elephant campaign website has great hosting tips with mocktail recipes and other important information about being a responsible host this season. They also have an app that includes a game your guests can play to test if they’ve had too much to drink to drive home.
Win a gift basket valued at $200!
Gift basket includes, Aunt Gloria’s Sugar Cookies, Toblerone, Brookside Dark Chocolate Pomegranate, Tim Horton’s fine grind coffee, Barilla pastas, Comfort Collection Gourmet Cheese Spread (Garden Vegetable), Chocolate Fudge and Chocolate Taffy, Caramel Popcorn, Roasted Almonds, Cocoa Chocolate Supreme, Guylian Belgian Chocolates – Milk Truffles; Comfort Collection, Chelsea Hot Pepper Sauce, Sardo Sweet Fire Roasted Peppers

I tink it is fabulous to have the programs we do in Canada, as above. 🙂
Keep a few bottles of red and white wine on hand, always!
Have plenty of snacks and drinks, no one drinks and drives, I’ll call the cab or drive you home myself
Great contest and what a great program.great reminder that if you drink you still have options to get home safe.get a cab! Call. A friend up. Do not. Drive and drink.
Love this program.
We keep cab numbers handy, that way there is no excuse NOT to call for a ride at the end of a party!
NO excuse at all now for drinking and driving. SOO many alternatives! LOVE that basket!! 🙂
I think programs like this are great, but it also starts by being a good example.. one of the main reasons we never drive after drinking is because we want to set a good example for our kids (for when they’re older) to show them that we as parents do it too..
It never ceases to amaze me at how cool they think it is when we come home without a car and then have to make a special trip to pick the car up again (Happened this past weekend).. Kids ask if it’s annoying and it opens up the dialogue to be open and honest.
Always have a few extra cards and boxes of chocolates on hand for someone your forgot.
Prepare dishes that can be made ahead of time and frozen. Then on the day of the party, simply reheat and add the finishing touches. This way you can actually enjoy the party and your guests.
I keep some rich cheeses, salami and procuitto in the fridge, and some really nice crackers around along with some great wine. That way I can put out a nice spread for guests with only a few moments in the kitchen!
Keep it simple, have food out all the time and ask for help 🙂
Do potluck style so you don’t have to shoulder all the cooking!
Start prepping as early as possible, make a short manageable list that can be accomplished everyday so that you don’t get overwhelmed and lastly remember to take care of yourself, don’t stress over everything
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t strive for perfection, strive to have an enjoyable holiday gathering. 🙂
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Do things in advance and don’t procasinate!
My favorite holiday tips are to prepare ahead of time and to always make sure your house smells nice.
Play Christmas music in the background and make enough food.
Prep everything you can in advance. Take offers of help.
Prepare ahead of time and keep calm.
Alsways have extra cold beverages 🙂
