Here’s why I took a break from social media!

It’s been a while!

Yeah it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on social media.

Why? Well I think part of the reason is due to getting turned off by social media – I wrote a blog post about it:

Why Instagram turned me off social media

Why Instagram Turned Me Off Social Media

What sealed the deal

Then I guess what sealed the deal for me was getting hacked on Instagram. It felt like a violation to have my account taken from me, and not being able to get it back, or get any help getting it back, was a reminder of the fact that social media is simply people’s thoughts, pictures and videos that you view through a screen. Instagram is just a bunch of squares. I don’t want my life whittled down to just square images that you can only see on a device.

It’s not real life, it’s just a glimpse into someone’s life and usually their highlights only.  And while it served as a vessel or connection to other people, it didn’t define me. It didn’t reflect me anymore either.

I stopped caring about creating content – by the way, can we stop using that term? And the word “curate” while we’re at it?

What happened to people’s attention spans? No one wanted to hear long-form content anymore…

The rise of TikTok

I also got tired of the TikTok content too… pumping out silly flashes of 6-second content for what? The purpose of endless brain-numbing scrolling? I guess it can be mindless fun for some and I get that.  I mean I am guilty of that myself when I first joined but it’s easily forgettable.

I’m still interested in sharing stories, helpful tips and resources.   I did it for many years here on this website,  and it took me through my parenting years which were rewarding but challenging. But now we’re at a different point! Our kids are older they’re teenagers, and we’re also older and I feel like our age range is underrepresented. plus I’m too old to jiggle my ass around on TikTok!

So what next?

So I’m starting back a little bit here and there… I want to chat with some interesting people and offer you some takeaways to make your second half of life better and more fulfilling. Because it is a helluva ride for us women. I hope you’ll join in and tune in on my YouTube channel.
