As the weather warms up, many Canadians will be lightening up their food fare and getting back to their outdoor exercise routine. Spring is a great time to make new health goals and get back into shape!

Cardiovascular/aerobic exercise has so many benefits, such as strengthening the heart, reducing blood pressure, reducing stress and reducing the risk for diabetes. Do you enjoy walking, swimming or running outdoors? Or do you prefer the treadmill or elliptical at home?

I enjoy weight training, spinning and yoga so I make sure I get to the gym at least three times a week. Relatives on my mother’s side of the family have had either high blood pressure or heart disease so it’s important that I eat well and exercise regularly.

To help get you healthy this spring, I’m participating in a Twitter chat on Monday, April 13th hosted by Dr. Michael McGillion and @CardiacPainRC, co-hosted by Dr. Marc Jolicoeur, a cardiologist from the Montreal Heart Institute.

Dr. McGillion, founder of the Persistent Cardiac Pain Resource Centre, and Dr. Jolicoeur will be looking to answer your heart-health questions and offering advice and insights on transitioning into the spring season and managing heart problems both proactively and reactively.
