How many of you love cleaning?
Let me rephrase – how many of you hate cleaning? Most of your hands are up, I know!
My problem is this – I feel like I’m never caught up on housework. Just when I spend four hours cleaning the house, it’s already a disaster the day after. Why bother cleaning at all?
But I can’t live in a dirty home, it would gross me out and my mother would kill me.
While I’m cleaning the entire house, I can’t help but think of all the things I’d rather be doing with that valuable time. Or I’m asking myself, “Why I haven’t hired someone to help clean even just twice a month?!”
But then I can’t justify the expense: why spend $100 to have someone clean when I can use that money to buy myself a new pair of shoes or item of clothing?
So I continue to clean, begrudgingly. But I have found a few tips that have helped me to keep my house on the somewhat clean and tidy side.
Clean As You Go
Take care of messes along the way. See a spill? Clean it up properly, ie. the orange juice that spilled on the floor and you just wiped with a paper towel? It’s still going to be sticky and then you’re going to walk on it and it’ll just get worse. Some food splashed in the oven? Once it’s cooled off a little bit, wipe it down – it’ll make it easier when you’re doing a major clean of your oven.
Dust Every Day
Keep a duster in plain view on both floors (if you have a two-storey; one for the bedrooms and one for the living/family room) and do a quick dust every other day.
Vacuum the Kitchen Every Day
It’s the busiest hub of the home. I keep my vacuum parked in the kitchen at all times because I tend to use it so much. Kids are messy little creatures; just one snack and crumbs are all over the floor. Before crumbs become a part of the floor, just bust out the vacuum and do a quick clean.
Keep Cleaning Products Handy
Who wants to see a spray cleaner on the bathroom counter? They’re always kept hidden in the cupboard.
