Casper (1995 Comedy/Family, Rated PG)
Another childhood favourite and family friendly scary movie, I think everyone had a crush on Casper when they were younger. This movie is witty, fun and heartfelt. Bundle up with some tiny candy bars and pop some popcorn with the kids to enjoy the friendliest of ghosts.
Poltergeist (1982 Horror, Rated PG)
How could I not include this classic? I remember this scaring me like nothing else when I was younger. The psychic little old lady is forever burnt into my memory. For those of us old enough to grow up with this movie it is still great to sit and chuckle over some of the scenes but it’s still fantastic for a scary Halloween movie night.
The Shining (1980 Drama/Horror, Rated R)
Here’s Johnny! Every scary movie night needs a scene with an axe and a maze, oh, and another creepy kid. The slow consistent pace of this movie into full blown horror makes it one of the most easily re-watched scary movies of all time.
Trick’r Treat (2007 Horror/Thriller/Comedy, Rated R)
Trying to keep with Halloween themed movies for your scary movie night? Then this is what you’re looking for. The story, though thin, all happens on Halloween and while it’s more entertaining than scary it’s still a great film to watch with the lights dimmed and arm of a friend close at hand to grab when needed.
Halloween (1978 Horror/Thriller, Rated R)
Speaking of classics and Halloween based movies: this is it. And you have more than one to choose from. Why not have a Halloween marathon on Halloween? It’s almost too good to be true.

Not a huge horror fan, but Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby scared the Bejesus out of me!
Both of those are awesome! Need to watch some this weekend!
