As a mother, one of the most treasured things you can  have of your children is pictures.

Here are few simple tips and tricks that will help you put sparkles in your children’s eyes!

I’m often asked to offer tips on getting kids eyes to sparkle in photos. Adding a catch light can help draw attention to the subject’s eyes. They sparkle with life, they look alive and have depth.  Catch light is the highlight of a light source reflected off to the surface of the eye.

1. When shooting outdoors position your subject in open shade.  You will find open shade in the shadow of a building, under big trees, on overcast days.  Avoid areas where sunlight may filter through the branches, creating a pattern on your subject’s face.

2. Have your subjects looking slightly up to get the reflection of the sky in their eyes.   Make sure your subjects are facing the light so you can capture catch lights.

3. When shooting indoors, have your subjects sit at about a 45 degree angle to a window.

Have fun, make memories!
