What’s your least favourite chore in the kitchen?

Cleaning the stove? Fridge? Doing dishes? I dread wiping down kitchen cabinets and cleaning the kitchen fan.

Let’s just say that the only ‘chore’ I enjoy doing in the kitchen is cooking. Keeping the kitchen clean is a challenge when there always seems to be crumbs on the counter tops and a sink full of dishes.

I’m grateful to have a dishwasher and smudge-proof refrigerator – now if only my oven and dishwasher were also smudge-proof!

One problem with having stainless steel is the fingerprints and spill marks. They show up so easily on stainless steel appliances – but not anymore!

Since having my Frigidaire Gallery® French Door Bottom Mount refrigerator, I don’t have to buy stainless steel cleaner anymore. I can easily wipe down the fridge with a hot wet cloth and remove any dirt or spills.

It’s one less thing I need to do in the kitchen... and I will take anything that will decrease the amount of time I spend cleaning!

You need to see how it works so I’m doing the Living Proof of Smudge-Proof™ Challenge using mustard and ketchup on my Frigidaire Gallery® refrigerator.

With their patented Smudge-Proof™ Stainless Steel finish, Frigidaire Gallery® and Frigidaire Professional® stainless-steel appliances have a new anti-smudge technology that resists those little fingerprints and is easier to clean than traditional stainless steel surfaces.

Frigidaire® uses high-grade stainless steel coated with layers of polymers, resulting in a sleek, beautiful stainless steel finish that is both durable and resistant to fingerprints.

So I can enjoy having stainless steel but without the high maintenance of standard stainless steel.

Smudge-Proof™ Stainless Steel is available on all Frigidaire Gallery® and Frigidaire Professional® products – see the collection here.

Since getting my new Frigidaire French Door Bottom Mount refrigerator, I’ve been trying to reorganize the rest of my kitchen. After all, with such a beautiful fridge, it’d be a shame not to have the rest of my kitchen up to par!

The fridge makes it easy to store food because of the store-savvy spaces. For example, condiments, sauces and jams are stored in the refrigerator door shelves. When everything has its place,  cooking and putting groceries away is a breeze not to mention storage is aplenty and entertaining becomes less stressful.

So I’m trying to take the organization in my Frigidaire fridge and carry it throughout the rest of the kitchen and entire house! Rather than be overwhelmed by a ton of projects, I’m starting off with the kitchen and working my way around the rest of the house, room by room. It will be an ongoing process and take time; it took me about a week to organize the basement:

Although we don’t have a pantry in the kitchen, we have a cantina – cold room – where we store everything from our own preserves like tomato sauce and giardiniera to pasta, onions and potatoes.

With limited cupboard space in the kitchen, the few cupboards I do have for storing food have to be well organized. One shelf is dedicated to baking supplies, the other for spices, one for coffee and tea and the rest is a hodge podge of items.

Although I haven’t found the time to finish everything I want to accomplish, I’ve been inspired to add some ideas to my Pinterest board, Get My Stuff Together.

kitchen organization tips

On my Kitchen Organization to-do list:

  1. Replace cupboard liners.
  2. Organize the rest of my spices with matching jars and chalkboard labels, like these ones.

3. Buy and organize gluten free flours into glass canisters, as seen on http://adoreyourplace.com/2013/06/05/organization-made-easy/

4. Buy some cutting board organizing racks – I’ll likely buy another rack for all the lids for my storage food containers – because that is the absolute most messy storage problem in my kitchen – and one for pizza pans!

 5. Buy new cutlery drawers and a few for all of the other utencils I have. I’d rather the cooking/baking utencils to be hidden away in a drawer than left out in a cannister on the counter.

6. Buy an under-the-sink shelving unit/rack to organize kitchen cleaning products, dish soap, dishwasher pods, scrubbing pads, etc.

Here is the progress I’ve made so far:

What is your biggest challenge when organizing your kitchen?

Summer entertaining is usually a challenge – where do you fit that huge watermelon? Drinks? That big bowl of potato salad?

When you have company over, the last thing you want to be doing is squeezing food into your refrigerator. I’ve always had to arrange and rearrange food in my fridge to make everything fit. In fact, we bought a second fridge years ago because our old fridge wouldn’t store enough food.

But now with our Frigidaire French Door Bottom Mount refrigerator, I don’t even have to use the second fridge anymore.

The shelving makes storing food so easy and organized. All of the condiments are stored in the door shelves.

The Cool Drawer is brilliant! It’s the width of the entire fridge, perfect for those extra-long bricks of cheese and, of course, bacon!

The fridge is also very deep so that big bowl of pasta salad or tray of meat can fit in without having to move too much. We tend to make extra food to have as leftovers so the space is great to store covered dinner plates and large food containers.

Let’s not forget the giant awkward-sized watermelon of which a quarter has already been cut – seriously, how does that fit in a regular fridge? It can fit in this one though! The sliding trays come in handy when reaching to grab something from the very back.

The Three-Tier LED Lighting which lights at every level from top shelf to bottom bin also helps – especially those late night snacks like leftover birthday cake… shhhhh!

Also the gallon-size bins are huge compared to the fruit and veggies bins I had in my old fridge. I can fit so much fruit and vegetables in the drawers and not worry about fruit bruising.

Still waiting for a plumber to hook up the line for our water/ice dispenser which will be a HUGE help as we go through bags of ice so quickly, especially this summer.

The kids love the new fridge too “because it’s so big and there is so much space,” says my 8-year-old.

Whether I’m making dinner for my family or entertaining guests, the Frigidaire French Door Bottom Mount refridgerator makes life a little bit easier – and that’s a good thing!
