Disney’s Moana is now available to watch at home on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, On-Demand and Digital HD/3D!

My family and I watched the new Disney film Moana and we loved it! My kids are HUGE fans of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson… and frankly, so am I! We enjoyed the stunning animation and the beautiful music.

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows exactly why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

Moana is directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”), produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), and features music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa‘i.

I appreciated that the film focused on a strong, independent female character who was on a mission to follow her dreams, and discover her own identity. Moana is a lovely film that inspires young girls to follow their dreams and embrace their inner strength.

The Moana Blu-Ray-DVD is now out and it includes bonus features, including a Maui mini-movie, Making the Music of Moana, and deleted scenes which are always fun to watch.

Excited to watch Moana? You can now get your copy of Disney’s Moana anywhere DVDs are sold, on demand, and for rent!

One of my favourite fairytales growing up was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Forever etched in my childhood memory was the beautiful princess, her adorable dwarfs Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, Dopey and, of course, the wicked Queen in the classic 1937 Disney film.

Forever enchanting and inspiring, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs embodies The Walt Disney Signature Collection’s legacy of animation. In this epic story of love and friendship, the kind and beautiful princess Snow White wins the hearts of the Seven Dwarfs and triumphs over the evil plans of a wicked Queen.

Named “The Greatest Animated Film Of All Time” by the American Film Institute, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is in High Definition Blu-ray and for the first time ever on Digital HD, with special features for the entire family.

Imagine the world in an eternal winter. Nooooo!

Disney’s new animated film Frozen stars Anna who is fearless and optimistic (voice of Kristen Bell). She sets off on a journey to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel) whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

Anna teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven. On their journey to save the kingdom, they encounter everest-like conditions, mystical creatures and a hilarious snowman named Olaf.

The animated comedy-adventure has a sweet message about sisterhood, family and love. Let’s not forget the beautiful effects (in 3D especially).

Frozen is loosely based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale —The Snow Queen — updated with a lovely musical score and superb vocal talent. Thinking this could easily turn into a musical theatre.

Frozen is like a winter wonderland of a family fun and perfect for the whole family this holiday season. It’ll be another Disney movie to add to the collection!

Disney’s “Frozen” is now in theatres and is rated PG.

My kids and I have been seeing the trailer for Disney’s Frozen since the summer and we can’t wait to see the movie.

by Darlene Morrisson

Ariel (voiced by Jodi Benson) is a sweet, little mermaid, who lives under the sea with her father and mermaid family.  She is fascinated by humans and even collects artifacts that she has found from humans along the way.  Of course, this is a secret because her father and the other mermaids would not understand.

Ariel spots a human and is captivated by his appearance, so much in fact, that she wants to meet and interact with him.  However, this is against her father’s rules.

Ariel makes a deal with the Sea Witch that in return for her lovely singing voice, she will become human. Ariel has three days to make the human fall in love with her and receive a loving kiss by sunset on the third evening. If Ariel does not get this kiss, she will lose her voice forever.

The  Diamond Edition Blu-Ray combo pack is great.  The colours are very vibrant and the sound effects and sound quality made it very engaging to keep the attention of the audience.  The extra features on the DVD are very fun- including interactive karaoke sing-a-long for the kids to sing and dance and what is nice is that the clips from the movie are included with the karaoke words, leaving it more entertaining for your children, as well as interesting interviews from the Disney animators.  And, much more.

It was definitely a great movie with great sound quality, interactive and engaging and recommended for all to see.

Disney’s Planes is like Cars but with a Rocky undertone. The big theme is the underdog winning the race and the nice guy does not finish last.

Planes follows Dusty, a crop duster with big dreams, to enter the Wings Around the Globe air race and compete with the big wigs.

The problem is, the little plane that could spends his days spraying fertilizer on farm fields and is – wait for it – afraid of heights.

Carrying on from the success of Cars and Cars 2, Disney has created Planes characters that follow a similar breakdown – there’s the main character, the goofy friend, the romantic interest, the wise one and the villain.

In Planes, Dusty (Dane Cook) has a lot to prove;  Skipper (Stacy Keach) is the veteran warplane hero who coaches Dusty to improve his game; Chug, the fuel truck (Brad Garrett), and Dottie, the forklift (Teri Hatcher) give Dusty friendship and support; and Ripslinger (Roger Craig Smith) is the airplane to beat in the race and who will play dirty to win.

There is mucho romance in Planes revolving around a Mexican plane named El Chupacabra (Carlos Alazraqui) who is trying to win the heart of a Canadian plane named Rochelle (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Dusty also has his eye on Indian plane, Ishani  (Priyanka Chopra).

There were a few laughs but some of the humour would likely go over youngsters heads.

In Planes, it’s really the animation and 3D effects that make the movie. The visuals are amazing.

Although Disney’s formula is pretty predictable,  younger kids will enjoy the film. Kids will walk away with some important lessons in courage and conquering your fears, what friendship means and following your dreams.

Planes opens in theatres today, Friday, August 9, 2013.
