oscar winners, oscars 2011, oscars, colin firth, The 83rd Academy Awards were held Sunday night.  Who took Oscar home?  Who won Best Picture?  What were the celebs wearing?  How did Anne Hathaway and James Franco do?

Red Carpet

Well it was an exciting evening in Los Angeles as the stars walked the red carpet.

There were a few styles on the red carpet, and one theme that stood out was the jewel-encrusted gowns.  There were still lots of neutrals at the Oscars, a look I’ve grown tired of to be honest.  The romantic layered look was also popular.  I was happy to see some awesome colour as well!

Mandy Moore looked beautiful in a jewel encrusted gown as did Michelle Williams in a simple and elegant white Chanel.  Halle Berry was stunning in Marchesa.  One of the best on the red carpet!

Mila Kunis looked stunning in a beautiful purple gown by Elie Saab as did Jennifer Hudson in a orange-red Versace .

It was nice to see some red on the red carpet – Anne Hathaway and Penelope Cruz wore the vibrant colour, as did Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein and Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang.

Worst dressed?  It’s a tie between Nicole Kidman,  Amy Adams and Cate Blanchett.

How did the co-hosts do?

There were high hopes for hosting duo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway.  We expected fresh, new,  young and hip and they were off to a fabulous start.  But sadly after the brilliant movie montage with the pair, it all went downhill from there.

Anne Hathaway worked the stage singing, dancing, changing costumes and all with a smile and amazing attitude.  James Franco?  He seemed uninterested, distracted, and bored!  Almost like he thought he was too cool to do this job… or maybe  he was truly super-nervous?  That’s certainly possible when you’re speaking to an audience of a billion people.  But still, he could have done better.

Who were the winners?

Best Moments

When he got up to accept his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, it appeared that Christian Bale forgot his wife’s name. Bale thanked the usual people for his Oscar but as he got to his wife, he stammered and looked like he totally forgot!  The camera went to his wife’s face which looked like a mixture of joy and awkwardness.

The God of Love took home the Oscar for live action short film on Sunday night at the Academy Awards.  And the speech Luke Matheny made was probably the best of the night! Surprised to win, Matheny walked on stage and the first thing he said was: “I should’ve got a haircut.”  He thanked his mother, “who did craft services for the film.”  Another great line!

Colin Firth’s Oscar acceptance speech was very funny and very British:  “I have a feeling my career has just peaked. My deepest thanks to the Academy. I’m afraid I have to warn you that I’m experiencing stirrings. Somewhere in the upper abdominals which are threatening to form themselves into dance moves. Joyous as they may be for me, it would be extremely problematic if they make it to my legs before I get off stage.”
