There has been no escaping of Charlie Sheen the last few days.
After Two and a Half Men filming was halted and announced on February 25th, it has been a whirlwind of Sheen’s meltdowns and rantings.
On the night of March 1st, Sheen’s twin sons were removed from his Beverly Hills home by police after a restraining order was issued by Brooke Mueller against the actor.
In the document, she stated: “I am very concerned that [Sheen] is currently insane. I am in great fear that he will find me and attack me, and I am in great fear for the children’s safety while in his care.”
According to Mueller, Sheen arrived at her home on Saturday and took the twins without her permission. When she tried to get the boys back from him, he threatened her. Allegedly, he told her: “I will cut your head off, put it in a box and send it to your mom.” Sheen has denied making this comment.
After the children were removed from the home, Sheen explained that he assumed the boys would be returned to their mother’s home, but later was told that the boys were taken to a hotel in Santa Monica.
When Sheen appeared on the Today Show the next morning, he said:
“I stayed very calm and focused.” To his sons he said, “I love you. Don’t say ‘goodbye’. Say ‘see you later’.”
On ABC’s 20/20, journalist Andrea Canning jumped right in to the explosive interview where Sheen spoke about his rampant drug use and his “goddesses”.
Sheen said the last time he took drugs to about a month ago when he “probably took more than anyone could survive.” He claims he was “bangin’ 7-gram rocks and finishing them because that’s how I roll. I have one speed, one gear … go!” Sheen even took a drug test to prove to 20/20 and the world that he is not using drugs right now.
Sheen is very much aware that people think he’s crazy. But he says, “It’s not an act.” In this week’s People cover story, he says: “Here’s the good news: If I realize that I’m insane, then I’m okay with it. I’m not dangerous insane.”
“I’m not interested in addiction, disease, all that crap. Twenty years they took from me. I just decided that I was going to think differently, that I was not going to believe anything I’d been taught,” he said.
Sheen’s media blitz continued Friday night (March 4th) on Dateline NBC.
Dateline showed never-before-seen home video footage from the actor’s private life. NBC crews and Jeff Rossen were allowed inside his estate to get an exclusive look at his home life with his kids and his two girlfriends.
Sheen discussed his current family situation and his reactions to the recent media frenzy surrounding his lifestyle and the halted production of Two and a Half Men.
One home video showed Sheen and his entourage sitting around his dining room table, strategizing a marketing campaign surrounding his latest media craze.
They are capitalizing on the recent events, talking about merchandise including t-shirts, etc.
Since Sheen joined Twitter and gained a whopping million followers within a day, breaking records, he has quickly become his own media mogul.
And Sheen sees the potential for big bucks.
Already merchandise companies jumped at profiting from Sheen’s media madness, creating new products with Charlie Sheen on T-shirts, ecards, even coffee mugs.
Even Jimmy Fallon did a brilliant impersonation of Sheen.
So who is winning? I think Sheen definitely is – for now. I do hope that Sheen gets the help he needs.
