Valentine’s Day is great as a child – exchanging cards, getting candy and cupcakes, and lots of chocolate.
However, when you start growing up, it becomes something more. It becomes a day to celebrate the love for your significant other. When you’re single however, the day every year just brings some people down.
But don’t worry! Instead of feeling down and lonely, there are many things that can be done and things to remember to lift your spirits.
1. Your identity
Always remember that your relationship status does not define who you are. You don’t introduce yourself including the fact that you’re single, or even saying you’re taken. There is so much about yourself that you have to remember and that’s the reason you have family and friends who love you.
2. Commercial Holiday
One thing people have to realize is that Valentine’s Day is a commercial holiday. It’s those holidays that fill the stores with red and pink hearts, chocolates, cards, even lingerie but it’s all for money. If you’re in a relationship, everyday should be a day to express your love for each other, not only on Valentine’s Day.
It’s best to find people who love you and get together with them. It doesn’t have to be on the day itself, but it’ll definitely keep you in a good mood. They’ll remind you why they care about you, and you’ll start remember why you’re such a great person. With your single friends, you could even do an anti-Valentine’s Day party for fun.
4. Go shopping!
For most of us ladies, when we’re feeling down, a great way to cheer up is to pamper ourselves. Go get your hair done, nails done, go shopping, or buy something for yourself that will just keep you going.
5. Stay Positive
It’s often hard to stay positive when all your friends have someone to spend Valentine’s Day with. But stay positive! If you’re really feeling down about being alone, think of positive ways to improve your chances of finding a relationship. Sometimes you’re not in the right place to be on the search for someone, but good things come to those who wait. Don’t look for him, let him come to you and while you wait, focus on yourself.
