If you want a relaxing getaway in the middle of the city, Hammam Spa is the place to be.
Hammam is an exotic escape from the hustle and bustle of King Street West in Toronto. It’s unisex so both women and men can enjoy the urban Hammam.
Hammam is a “Ritualistic Bath” built on the ancient philosophy of the traditional Turkish bath still found throughout Europe, Russia and Asia. Turkish baths were traditionally steam-filled grottos for social gatherings of the upper class. Women and men would lounge in the steam, during body treatments while socializing.
What makes this luxurious spa in Toronto different from the rest is the Hammam area. The Hammam Steam Room is a co-ed facility so you can wear a wrap which the spa provides (along with a robe and slippers) or bring your own bathing suit.
It’s hot and steamy with eucalyptus and other relaxing scents, dark and illuminated by changing lights. If the heat becomes too much, you can cool down in the Tea Lounge and relax with a snack and some magazines.
I found the Hammam Steam Room so relaxing and the heat was soothing to my aching muscles. I took a break after 10 minutes to get some water just outside the steam room, and went back in for another 10 minutes. I could go in and out of the Hammam Steam Room all day; it’s wonderful for your skin.
Hammam Spa also offers two signature ritual treatments traditional to Hammam treatments found in Morocco, Turkey and the Middle East – the Hammam Turkish Bath Treatment, where you lay down on a heated white onyx table imported from Turkey. The other is the Rhassoul Wrap Treatment.
I had the most amazing facial done – I’ve never had a facial done before so this was a huge treat for me. The senior therapist who pampered me, Cynthia, first took a look at my skin and asked me questions about my daily routine and products that I use. She told me what areas needed some “work” and then proceeded to give the most amazing treatment for my skin-type using Dermalogica prodcuts.
Not only did I receive a wonderful Dermologica Custom Facial, I was also pampered with a scalp, hand and neck massage as well as a hot towel compression on my feet. I could’ve easily fallen asleep on the massage table. The Turkish/Middle Eastern music took me away to a foreign place.
