The dove is a symbol of hope and peace.
Every holiday season, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation runs their amazing Doves of Hope campaign.
When you visit the Doves of Hope website, you have the opportunity to honour someone special by dedicating a Dove of Hope, a symbol of unity and strength for cancer patients and their families.
I’ve dedicated my Dove of Hope to not just one person but my relatives who have passed away due to cancer. My grandmother, who is my namesake, died of lung cancer when I was a little girl, even though she had never smoked. I’ve said goodbye to uncles who suffered brain cancer, leukemia, stomach cancer… cancer has taken too many lives too early.
But on the positive and amazing side of it all, my husband’s grandmother beat breast cancer 20 years ago and is still cancer-free. So I dedicate my Dove of Hope to those who lost the battle but continue to live in our hearts – and to those who have conquered cancer.
I am sure that everyone knows someone who had or has cancer. I encourage you to give hope to them and to cancer patients throughout Princess Margaret Hospital who are currently battling cancer.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is one of the world’s top 5 cancer research centres and the Doves of Hope program gives people the opportunity to honour someone special in a visible, tangible way. Over the past 10 years, 55,000 Doves of Hope have been displayed in the atrium of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and their online Dove Gallery.
Doves of Hope represent hope – they show patients that they aren’t alone in their fight to conquer cancer.
Dedicate your own Dove this holiday season to bring hope to cancer patients over the holidays. Or give the gift of the Dove as a gift to a loved one.
I’m proud to be working with Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation on this campaign. The opinions expressed herein are my own.
