What is happening to the children of today?

So many kids seem to lack manners, self-respect, self-esteem and ambition. Too many seem to think that the world owes them a living.

Come on parents. Give your kids chores so that they can take ownership and pride in their surroundings.

Make them earn their own money for their iPods, iPads and laptops. They will appreciate and take care of their belongings.

Feed them properly so that they may live life to the fullest.

Teach them to respect themselves and others by being a good role model.

Show them that they are valued and loved for who they are by spending time with them – not in front of a TV.

We are responsible for future generations.

It might be easier for some to plop their kids in front of the TV with fast food and movies.

Do you know what this is telling them?  “I can’t be bothered to do what is positive and nurturing for my children. They aren’t worth my time and effort.”

Really? Is that what you want to tell your children?

  1. This post feels like a sweeping generalization to me. ~Most~ parents are doing the best they can under their own circumstances. I know many very happy, friendly, well adjusted young people. I know families who have one child who is extremely polite and another who is introverted, quiet and sometimes comes off as impolite, but he is just who he is. They were both parented the same way. So is it the parent’s fault! Why do we have to pressure each other. We can’t know a family’s circumstances or situation. Why judge?

  2. Most days, you would think that my kids are fantastic, and that I am doing an awesome job raising them. Most days, you will hear them say, please, excuse me, thank you. Most days, you will find me cooking carefully planned meals and encouraging creative pursuits. Most days.
But if you meet me or my child on a day when we are tired, have been travelling, don’t feel well or are just kind of in a shitty mood, you will never know that most days, things are awesome, and just decide that my kids are rude and that I don’t take the time to raise them properly.
And I’m guessing that you posted this anonymously because you know that you have days like that, too, and not because you actually believe that you are above judgement.

I agree that we have to bring up NICE kids and it takes a LOT of work to do that… but we ALL have off days – even Moms!
