Back-to-school time is always an exciting time of the year.  Much like a new calendar year, the start of a new school year brings new goals and plans.

As the kitchen is the hub of the house, I’ve set up a space for my kids to do their homework. This “study corner” was a bit of a disaster, with papers and homework piled up from the last two school years (I know.)

So I finally managed to purge most of the paperwork, and organize the kids’ desk. I have a few things left to do to complete this space, including a dry-erase/cork board and a desk caddy.

We have a new desk chair, courtesy of Staples, that my kids can grow into. What will they do in their chair this year?

Back-to-School Time and a New Year

Well, both will have EQAO testing and while scores don’t really matter, it will be interesting to see how they do! My son will be in Grade 6 which means he’ll be getting much more homework this year. He’ll need to spend more time reviewing his work – especially math – on a daily basis in order to retain the information.

My third-grader will also start this year playing competitive hockey for the first time, so we’ll have to balance homework with crazy hockey schedules.  Having a dedicated space for him to complete his homework, and have me nearby to ask me any questions while I prepare dinner, will hopefully help him accomplish his daily tasks more effectively.

I may just have to borrow the kids’ desk space with my laptop and enjoy the comfy chair myself, as I continue working on writing my book! More news on that in the near future…

I was just at Staples this past weekend stocking up on supplies. My 8 year old had an extensive supply list this year.

  2. Wow, you cleaned that area up nicely. That’s such a cool little homework corner. I wish we had one!

  3. This is a great the kids need their own space to study …Looks like you put a lot of effort into making the space clutter free and kid friendly.

  4. I need a brand new chair too! Looks like that chair’s backrest is awesome!

  5. That is a nice chair. I like the idea of putting up a study space near the kitchen. It will be easier for me to assist my kids with their homework.

  6. That is a nice study space. I love that it is clutter free and anything you’d need is within reach. The chair looks comfy and ergonomic!

  7. I love your study place and looks neat. My son wants that he ad an own study space here in our house

  8. My daughter is only going to school next year but I’m preparing from now. My office is in a mess, I need to organize it! I love working in a clean space.

  9. We homeschool, so we don’t feel the pressure that other families do about back to school. We do buy all the suppies but we don’t necessarily need all the new clothes, backpacks, etc.

  10. I think it’s interesting to see the scores too. I can’t believe it’s back to school time already.
