Food: Amanda Goetz is a WAHM to 3 kids under the age of 5. Her love of cooking was fostered when she was a preschooler helping her grandma in the kitchen. After a year long stint as a sous chef, she left the industry to continue cooking as a hobby before the stress and politics of a professional kitchen killed her love of cooking. Now she creates delicious dinners and delectable desserts for her family and friends and blogs about it at The Best Mom on the Block.
Motherhood: Christine LaRocque is a full-time communications professional, wife, and mother to two under 5. While trying to manage a hectic lifestyle filled with long commutes and two unruly boys, she discovered that sometimes when you are trying to do everything, you are really doing nothing at all. She writes about managing life as a full-time working mother at Coffees & Commutes.
Finding Your Bliss: Christy Laverty is a broadcast journalist and news editor for 680 news All News Radio. She’s also a freelance writer. At Healing Muse, she does aromatherapy massage, foot treatments, body readings, intuitive healing treatments and reiki sessions. Monika is also the president of The Canadian Federation of Aromatherapists (cfacanada.com) and Founder of the Lakeshore Environmental Gardening Society. Follow her on Twitter.
My Two Cents: Alex Durrell digs her humour like she likes her wine…dry. With a bite. She knows the lyrics to pretty much every song ever written, has a weakness for plaid and for all her complaining, she always finds the silver lining. Her two kids and one husband (for now…she’s evaluating the benefits of Brother Husbands) are the things that make her happiest and most frustrated in life, and there’s not a thing she’d change about that. Despite the name, she blogs here and here but is usually found in her pajamas on Twitter.
a note from the editor
I always thought that some moms always looked like they had it together, like they were a complete natural at being a mom. Until after opening up to me, I realized that they were struggling to cope with all the challenges of motherhood, just like I was. Yet in the beginning, we were too afraid to talk about it.
When amotherworld was born, the goal was to reach out to other moms by sharing some of my own experiences and stories, whether serious or humorous, to help make other moms feel like they are not alone. When I discovered how many moms from all over the world were reading us, I was excited and curious. What would a woman from Malaysia or France, Spain or the Philippines have in common with me? Maybe not much in terms of language or lifestyle, but we share one commonality – we are mothers.
This online magazine was created for the global community of motherhood. For women who share the love for their children but who in the process of raising them, maintain their true self. For all mothers who attempt to reach a happy balance between family and career, time for their children and time for themselves. I hope women of many countries will see, through this site, that they share the same hopes and challenges not only as the mom living next door, but also a woman half-way around the world.
